Cave Run Lake
Located just 15 miles north of town, this large lake is home to some of the best fishing in the state. In fact, Cave Run Lake is considered the Muskie capital of the south!
The lake offers numerous boat access points for anglers of all types. You can even fish the backwaters of the lake via two launches in Morgan County: Blackwater and Twentysix. If you’ve got a line and pole, we’ve got you covered.
Red River Gorge
35 miles west of downtown West Liberty lies one of the most magnificent geologic features this side of the Mississippi River. The Red River Gorge features striking natural sandstone arches and cliffs that draw people from all over the world.
Whether you want to hike to the arches, climb on the cliffs, or just take a leisurely ride on the skylift to the top of Natural Bridge, there’s something for everyone’s adventure level.
Arts and Crafts
This region is home to some of the finests artists and craftspeople in the world, and they showcase this throughout the year by exhibiting in galleries and presenting at shows and fairs throughout the state and country.
One of the finest collections of folk art in the world is located in Morehead, Kentucky, just 30 miles north of town. This gallery features art from several regional folk artists.
A short drive in any direction will land you at the doorsteps of many other magnificent collections of local art, including the Gateway Regional Arts Center in Mount Sterling and the Claypool-Young Art Building on the campus of Morehead State University.
Art lovers can take a day and explore all of the magnificent work this area’s artists have to offer. You won’t be disappointed.
